We, Barclays PLC, 1 Churchill Place, London E 14 5 HP, England, fell below the 3% theshold of § 21 para. 1 WpHG on 21 May 2007 and held 0,97% of the voting rights (i.e. 1.350.036 shares with voting rights) in ALTANA AG. We were attributed these 0,97% of the voting rights in ALTANA AG pursuant to § 22 para. 1 sent. 1 no. 1 WpHG via our subsidiary Barclays Bank PLC. Barclays Bank PLC directly held 0,02% of the voting rights (i.e. 21.917 shares with voting rights) and was itself attributed further 0,95% of the voting rights (i.e. 1.328.119 shares with voting rights) pursuant to Sec. 22 para. 1 sent. 1 no. 1 WpHG via subsidiaries of which none exceeded the 3% threshold.
