New Processes for Producing and Stabilizing High- Quality Mirror-Effect Pigments Based on the Selected Development of a New Process Additive
ALTANA synergies pave the way to a shimmering future. As a result of the cross-divisional collaboration between BYK and ECKART, ALTANA has succeeded in developing a totally new manufacturing technology. For this purpose special block copolymers were developed using a native raw material and then adapted to the process. The result was a new generation of high-value metallic effect pigments. The pigment pastes and printing inks produced with this process enable our customers to produce products with optical mirror effects in a quality that was unattainable with the PVD pigments and metallic films used before.
With this new production process the company has entered a new dimension of brass pigments. The resulting coatings display excellent optical properties such as high gloss and an extremely high distinctiveness of image (DOI) as well as improved mechanical properties such as adhesion and printability.
Metallic pigments that attain mirror-like brilliance offer the customer new design options which can be used in diversifi ed industrial applications (e.g. automotive industry, packaging, cosmetics, printing media, etc.).
