Packaging technology more than skin-deep?
Yes, with RFID chips.
In future, the familiar barcode will be replaced by radio frequency identification (RFID) chips that will allow anyone to quickly and easily find out just what a package contains or track their merchandise orders in real time. But this is not the only use for these printed RFID labels based on ALTANA products – they also have an enormous potential in the medical sector. The chips, smaller than a grain of rice, can store data on chronic illnesses for later transmission to the physician or clinic treating the patient. This will enable people to receive faster, safer and more targeted treatment.
