Emissions

Our absolute CO2 emissions remained virtually constant during the reporting period. However, energy-efficient technologies had a positive impact on CO2 emissions with reference to gross value added. We have already met our own goal of reducing these emissions by ten percent by 2012. ALTANA determines its CO2 emissions in accordance with the regulations of the international “Greenhouse Gas Protocol" standard and the “Carbon Disclosure Project” on the basis of total energy consumption. The comparison between direct emissions / Scope 1 (in-house energy generation) and indirect emissions / Scope 2 (purchased energies, power), shows that most of our savings potential was achieved with electricity.
