Rheology Expert - Technical Sales

Your task structure

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Rheology and rheological additive expert within the defined region:
    • Collaborate with all relevant Business Lines and their End Uses being the Expert in Rheology across all key product technologies
    • Support and train key End-Use stakeholders allowing them to establish over time their own rheo-expertise
    • Train the Sales Force, representatives, agents and customers, providing guidance and tools helping to guide and select to choose the right additive for a specific problem or application
  • Support to implement the Rheo-Strategy based on set targets and priorities with clear focus and dedication towards:
    • Urea based additives
    • Hydroclays
    • PU thickeners
    • Organoclays
    • Mixed Minerals
    • Laponite
  • Guide End-Uses on the strategic given targets and ensure knowledge transfer to increase independency and higher self-confidence when presenting and recommending rheological additives
  • Be actively out in the market together with sales, agents and or End-Uses so customers do understand and judge BYK as a key supplier for rheological additives within the relevant market
  • Pro-actively offering and defining TSR to be executed by the relevant End-Use
  • Link between the various End-Use Departments and the TG Rheology & Clays acting as a team and true partners, not as competitors
  • Defining missing technical sales tools and helping the End-Uses to provide and prepare market relevant data and support documentation
  • Develop and define new business opportunities for rheological additives at existing or new customers within existing or new markets and applications – trace and track those while targeting the business to grow
  • Maintain regular communication with sales and End-Uses and collect intelligence that could be used to improve products or develop into R&D activity
  • Manage customer expectations and ensure the appropriate response is delivered to the commercial team
  • Introduction of new products / new technologies to customers / End-Uses / Sales and Agents, providing details and arguments concerning the value of those products / technologies
  • Technical Sales Support to actively increase market share, market value and reputation
    • Increase profitability of the rheological additive portfolio
  • Support the objectives established by CBA Product Development Process (PDP) projects and Clay Competence Steering Group (CCSG) by providing input on resource availability, production challenges

Your recipe for success


  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical field
  • Rheology expertise
  • 3+ years of experience in a field technical support capacity
  • Excellent knowledge of the additives industry (especially rheological additives)
  • Good computer knowledge (Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint)
  • Excellent presentation skills, proven ability to problem solve and communicate efficiently through all levels of a company

  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams and collaborate effectively in a matrix organization
  • Excellent communication skills to work with internal and external customers
  • High willingness to travel (international)
  • Strong computer and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Team-oriented with good interpersonal and communication skills; morale builder
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work, perform under pressure, and work closely with colleagues while maintaining a positive mental attitude
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
