ALTANA Expands Executive Management Team with Chief Technology Officer

As of March 1, 2008, Dr.-Ing. Georg F. L. Wießmeier (41) will take over responsibility at ALTANA AG, as Chief Technology Officer (CTO), for the newly created central function of Innovation. He will be a new member of the Executive Management Team of the specialty chemicals company ALTANA and will also report directly to CEO Dr. Matthias L. Wolfgruber.
 
With the appointment of a CTO at group level, ALTANA underlines just how outstanding important the questions of research and knowledge management are for the continued profitable growth of the company. With a research quota of more than 5%, the specialty chemicals company is significantly above the average for the chemicals industry and is the innovation leader in many global markets.
 

Dr. Wießmeier has come from Bayer AG, where he last held the position of Director New Business Asia Pacific for the Bayer MaterialScience sub group in Tokyo. After obtaining a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Karlsruhe (Technical University) and subsequently receiving a doctorate, also from Karlsruhe, with his thesis on Micro Reaction Technology, he joined Bayer AG. Following positions in Corporate Technology and Corporate Research, he went on to New Business - Creative Center of Bayer MaterialScience AG.
