BYK-Gardner – manufacturer of complete QC solutions for measuring color, appearance, and physical properties of paint and plastic, introduces a new member of the wave-scan family: wave-scan II.
The wave-scan II assesses orange peel and brilliance of high-gloss surfaces. The successor to the wave-scan DOI, which is considered the standard in the automotive industry, is much lighter in weight and easier to handle. Thus measurements become more simple and quicker, which is a great advantage when measuring car bodies on the production line. Thanks to the new design, measurements on surfaces with more curvature are possible now, thus more areas can be checked than before.
In automotive production many materials are being used and the aim is to create an overall harmonious impression of the vehicle. The visual perception depends on size and distinctness of structures. The measuring instrument analyzes the waviness in the range of 0,1 to 30 mm wavelength. Besides the classic scales LW and SW DOI and many customized scales are being evaluated. DOI is an objective measure for gloss and brilliance, independent of the paint system and the curvature of the surface. Additional information is available from the structure spectrum, which helps at optimization and trouble shooting.
With the new scroll-wheel, the wave-scan II is very easy to operate. Scales, scan lengths and memory can be selected directly on the instrument, the big display offers enough space for statistic data. The saved measured values can be transferred to a PC via a docking station, which also serves to load the battery pack. The software auto-chart offers flexible analysis functions and enables the professional documentation in Excel®.
The specialist for high-gloss surfaces, the new wave-scan II, completes the wave-scan family: from the micro-wave-scan for small, highly curved partes up to the wave-scan dual for high- und medium-gloss surfaces.
